What is Taqiyya?

The Anti-Muslim demagogues love to talk about this weird, so called, rule that permits Muslims to lie to spread Islam. I had never even heard of it until I was accused of it by someone in a discussion once. The basic idea, according to them, is that if any Muslim ever denies being a blood thirsty lunatic engaged in perpetual war against the West, they must be lying. Muslims are simply presumed guilty, and if we profess innocence that is only further evidence of our guilt.

It should be fairly clear to any rational being that lying to spread a religion is nonsensical. If I lie to you about what Islam is and you convert I haven't spread Islam because what you have accepted was a lie.

These constant stream of Islamophobes carping on about how Muslims are allowed to lie to non-Muslims whilst appealing to something called “taqiyyah” (also spelled, “takiya” and “taqiyya”) also end up convincing the average joe non muslim about this myth

Rather than relying on shoddy hate sites/Christian missionaries to educate us about taqiyyah we shall rely on SCHOLARLY authority – largely in the form of R. Strothmann’s relevant section in “Shorter Encyclopaedia of Islam” (by H.A.R. Gibb and J.H. Kramers) and Cyril Glasse’s Concise Encyclopedia of Islam

What is “Taqiyyah”, “Takiya”, “Taqiyya”?

This term is spelt variously; “taqiyyah”, “takiya” or “taqiyya”.

“Takiya (A.), caution, fear (see glossarium to Tabari S.V. T-K-A) pr kitman, “disguise” is the technical term for dispensation from the requirements of religion under compulsion or threat of injury.” [1]

“Taqiyyah (From the root word waqa “to safeguard”; “self-protection” and hence “dissimulation [in order to protect oneself]”).” [2]

So, taqiyyah (takiya, taqiyya) is concerning dissimulation due to force – i.e. when an individual is forced to conceal.

Sadly, Islamophobes – in order to obtain an unchecked platform and/or demonise Muslims – have misapplied this term in their exaggerated claims of “Muslims are allowed to lie to the unbelievers”.

At what level of force is Takiya (Taqiyyah, Taqiya) justified?

“But an individual is not justified in takiya nor bound to hidjra [emigration] if the compulsion remains within the endurable limits, as in the case of temporary imprisonment or flogging which does not result in death” [1]

So, this make a mockery of the Islamophobes’ general suggestions of “Muslims are allowed to lie to the unbelievers” as even under threat of imprisonment and flogging Muslims are not justified in takiya. The level of force which justifies oneself in takiya is that of an unbearable level.

Takiya (taqiyya, taqiyyah) and the type of lies…

One may ask, what type of “disguise” is allowed under takiya (taqiyyah, taqiyya)?

Let’s be clear about takiya (taqiyyah, taqiyya); “The principle of dissimulation of one’s religious beliefs in order to avoid persecution or imminent harm, where no useful purpose would be served by publicly affirming them.” [2]

So takiya (taqiyyah, taqiyya) is not used to convert folk to Islam nor is it used in Islamic text books or anything of such a nature. It is simply a form of concealment used to avoid persecution!

For further clarity, we are not talking about general, everyday fibs here, thus the ethical question of dishonesty is bypassed:

“The ethical question whether such forced lies are nevertheless lies, such a forced denial of the faith nevertheless a denial, is not put at all by one “who conceal himself” as he is not in a state of confidence which would be broken by lies or denial.” [1]

Sadly, our Islamophobic counterparts attempt to convince the gullible that takiya (taqiyyah, taqiyya) allows Muslims to lie (or conceal) about aspects of their faith (Islam) as well as lie in general.

Famous case of Taqiyyah (Taqiyya, Takiya)

A common example of takiya (taqiyyah, taqiya) involves a Muslim (Ammar B. Yasir, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad, p) being forced to worship idols and insult the Prophet of Islam. [1] [3]

The level of force the polytheists applied on Ammar bin Yasir can be imagined by Amr bin Maymoon’s statement, “The polytheists tortured Ammar with fire”. [3]

“Abu Ubaydah bin Muhammad bin Ammar bin Yasir said: The polytheists seized Ammar and they did not let him off until he was forced to insult the Messenger of Allah and say good things about their deities” [3]

Ammar bin Yasir told Prophet Muhammad (p) of what he was forced to say.

“The Prophet (p) said: “Say it again if they ask (i.e. force) you to do so”.” [3]

So, in order to avoid such torture the Prophet allowed Ammar bin Yasir to use “taqiyya”

If Jesus (pbuh) had done the same, our Christian friends would have lauded it as an act of piety and mercy. Instead we see Islamophobes exaggerating this form of concealment in order to demonise Muslims. It’s a crazy old world!

Taqiyyah and the Shi’ites (Shia)

"It is, however, associated most closely with the Shi’ites who practiced taqiyyah systematically and widely during periods of Sunni domination to hide their beliefs from Sunni Muslims. "[2]

Obviously, if these Shi’ites felt they would have been persecuted for publicly announcing their shia beliefs, one can understand why they concealed (used taqiyya) their beliefs.

Is taqiyyah allowed in the Quran?

Our Islamophobic friends jump up and down in joy whilst proclaiming taqiyyah (taqiyya, takiya) is allowed in the Quran. Let’s analyse (via scholarship) the two Verses they cite.

Quran 16:106 and taqiyyah (taqiyya, takiya)?

Whoso disbelieveth in Allah after his belief - save him who is forced thereto and whose heart is still content with the Faith - but whoso findeth ease in disbelief: On them is wrath from Allah. Theirs will be an awful doom. [Pikthal translation of the Quran 16:106]

The reason for this verse is unanimously said to have been the case of Ammar b. Yasir, whose conscience was set at rest by this revelation when he was worried about his forced worshipping of idols and objurgation of the Prophet. [1]

The story of Ammar bin Yassir is relayed earlier (see above).

Tabari says on Sura 16:106 (Tafsir, Bulak 1323 sqq.24.122): If any one is compelled and professes unbelief with his tongue, while his heart contradicts him, to escape his enemies, no blame falls him on him, because God takes his servants as their hearts believe” [1]

The Quran’s (16:106) allowance of uttering disbelief whilst under extreme force is hardly justification for the outrageous smears the Islamophobes propagate.

Quran 3:28 and taqiyyah (taqiyya, takiya)?

Let not the believers take disbelievers for their guardians in preference to believers. Whoso doeth that hath no connection with Allah unless (it be) that ye but guard yourselves against them, taking (as it were) security. Allah biddeth you beware (only) of Himself. Unto Allah is the journeying. [Pikthal translation of the Quran 3:28]

This Verse instructs Muslims to not take the unbelievers as patrons over the believers but does allow for this in the case of fear. Tuqatan is used here (a verbal noun of taqiyyah). Tafsir Jalalayn explains:
“unless you protect yourselves against them, as a safeguard (tuqātan, ‘as a safeguard’, is the verbal noun from taqiyyatan), that is to say, [unless] you fear something, in which case you may show patronage to them through words, but not in your hearts” [Tafsir Jalalayn – 3:28]

It is hardly something Islamophobes can latch onto as evidence for their demonization of Muslims as this Verse allows concealment (taqiyyah, taqiyya, takiya) in the case of fear (i.e. to avoid persecution). We are essentially back to where we started as initially stated on taqiyyah:

Takiya (A.), caution, fear (see glossarium to Tabari S.V. T-K-A) pr kitman, “disguise” is the technical term for dispensation from the requirements of religion under compulsion or threat of injury. [1]

Taqiyyah (From the root word waqa “to safeguard”; “self-protection” and hence “dissimulation [in order to protect oneself]”). [2]

Lying about the Prophet Muhammad (p)

Islamophobes, in an attempt to obtain an unchecked platform, do suggest Muslims misinform (“use taqiyya”) about the Prophet Muhammad (p). This is an utter absurdity as it is a grave sin for a Muslim to misinform about the Prophet Muhammad as the Prophet stated:

“Whoever lies about me intentionally shall take a place for himself in hell” (al-Adhkar (y102), 510-12) [4]

In fact, presenting misinformation about the Prophet (p) was considered an extreme offense amongst early Muslim communities:

Habib ibn ar-Rabi’ said that it is disbelief to alter his [Prophet Muhammad’s] description and its details. The one who does that openly is an unbeliever. He is asked to repent. [5]

So much for the Islamophobes claims of “Muslims using taqiyyah” regarding Prophet Muhammad (p).

Conclusion

Taqiyyah (taqiya, takiya) is not something to be writing home about. To use this practice to brandish Muslims as untrustworthy (or to demonise them) is unscholarly and unjust.

If you do encounter an anti-Muslim bigot on the internet crying “taqiyya” (there are plenty about), please do send him/her to this group to be educated

No reason to hide or conceal if you are worshipping true God. Dont forget satanist also hide themselves by telling us that they dont actually worship satan, but that they dont believe in anything. There is enough evidence of them offering human sacrifices. So we christians are forbidden to do taqyia.

  3. When i heard about the word "Taqiyya" being used to describe the process in which a Muslim lied about his religion to a non Muslims I was generally confused I was like 'huh?' Never heard such a thing seeing as we must speak the truth all the time even about our religion. So I searched it up and realized that this form of lying and misguidance was generally been produced by anti-islamic bigotries and Islamphobes trying to hurt Islam. Until I came across this article which explained a lot and even went and did some more research on the topic of what 'taqiyya' is and found out that what your saying is true.

Say one thing to one player, and something else to another.... in my mind, that is lying. Maybe I will never be as good player as them, but I will always have my honour and my conscience. 6. @Siv-Ingvild Thirud; Muslims are like all people some practise their religion well, some don't. Just because some Muslims told you to lie while playing does not mean that Islam teaches that. I wish people would understand this. It's as if Islam is the only religion on the Earth where the whole religion is judged according to its followers.

You find that a lot of Islamphobes come up with this kind of anecdotal evidence (calling such stories 'evidence', is pretty generous imo) when their arguments are disproven, it's quite pathetic really.

  9. Firstly, There is no such thing as "Islamophobia". In fact it is impossible, as true phobias are based on irrational and unfounded fears.

Secondly, the word "Islamophobia" is a term of bigotry used solely for the deliberate purpose of insulting non-Muslims.

I noticed that you made sure to use the term "Islamophobe(s)" at least 10 times in your posting.

If one wanted to be bigoted, rude and disrespectful like you, they could just as easily state that humanity is extremely concerned with the creation of Allah's messenger, INFIDELPHOBIA!!

There is no separation of Religion, Government and Military in Islam. There is no such thing as Human Rights. Your "religion" allows women to be treated like property. How is any of this JUST in the eyes of God? YOU may not believe Islam is evil because taqiyya has been used on good people for Centuries to mask the corrupt intentions of your "messenger". 2. . Perhaps you would be taken more seriously if you studied both Islam and the words of Jesus. Believing he was a prophet yet denying his words is as dangerous as continuing to preach this hatred to young minds longing for truth. There is no such thing as Islamaphobia but there is a strong working of the Holy Spirit in the world opening the eyes of the blind to overturn the deceptiveness of Islam.

son of Hamas said it well. "Here's the reality: after I studied Christianity - which I had a big misunderstanding about, because I studied about Christianity from Islam, which is, there is nothing true about Christianity when you study it from Islam, and that was the only source. When I studied the Bible carefully verse by verse, I made sure that that was the book of God, the word of God for sure, so I started to see things in a different way, which was difficult for me, to say Islam is wrong," said Yousef to Fox News in 2008.

"Islam is my father. I grew up for (one) father - 22 years for that father - and another father came to me and told me, 'I'm sorry, I'm your father.' And I was like, 'What are you talking about? Like, I have my own father, and it's Islam!' And the father of Christianity told me, 'No, I'm your father. I was in jail, and this (Islam) is not your father.' So basically this is what happened. It's not easy to believe this (Islam) is not your father anymore. So I had to study Islam again from a different point of view to figure out all the mistakes, the huge mistakes and its effects, not only on Muslims - (of) which I hated the values ... I didn't like all those traditions that make people's lives more difficult - but its effects also on humanity. On humanity! People killing each other (in) the name of God," he explained.

  13. Do I believe what you are saying about Taqiyya? I'm not sure because I see so much contradiction in your religion that has no compassion for non believers. It is strange that you call me a islamophobe because i don't believe what your religious elders are telling us about your support or non support of Jihad against non believers in this country. I'm not afraid of your religion as such so I'm NOT an Islamophobe, but I am certainly against your religion for NOT standing up against those who use the name of Allah to support terrorism against innocent people! If you had a Christian turn into a radical and kill anyone in the name of Christianity there would be a total out cry of horror and condemnation from everyone who calls themselves a Christian! There is quite often only excuses for such evil from your so called Leaders of Islam and very little in the way of condemnation! Words are cheap but the actions are there far all to see. Where ever there is terrorism in the world today the name of Islam is not far away.

Out of the millions of Muslims in the world, and all the good we do on a daily basis
and the MILLIONS of Muslims who just want to live our lives peacefully, and in such a way as is pleasing to our Lord

So, it never occurred to you that Muslims are humans (yes, we're one of you) and unfortunately some of us are not exactly the best representation of Islam?

I have to state the obvious:
With the MILLIONS of Muslims all over the world. If Islam was really what some of you try to make it out to be , there would be A LOT more of this "terrorism" y'all constantly try to paint it as. Don't you think?

To answer your question about why we (cant, not "don't") stand up against those who use the name of Allah to support terrorism against innocent people!

1 - we do...as is obvious when reading any article stating incorrect information about Islam

2 - it becomes VERY time consuming as Fox 5 News won't be interested in a story highlighting our "responses" to ignorant and hurtful statements (not to mention lies) constantly posted on the Internet to help get our "side of the story" out to the world. So the little people like myself spend hours a day correcting ignorant statements made by those who, if they really wanted to know the truth could just do a little research.

The reality of it is....some of you DON'T want to know the truth. And that's okay. I used to be that person

But honestly, disputing with you about the obvious facts in Islam is like disputing the intense heat of the sun.

It simply doesn't make sense to waste time disputing something that could be easily discovered with a little effort.

    3. I like the answer of this German Scholar Pierre Vogel when he was asked about terrorism and Islam: He said:

"• Who started the First World War, which killed 37 million and injured 22, 379, 053 that includes 7 million civilians? Muslims?
      • Who started the Second World War, which killed over 60 million, which was over 2.5% of the world population? Muslims?
      • Who killed about 20 million of Aborigines in Australia? Muslims?
      • Who dropped the nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which killed 166,000 people in Hiroshima and 80,000 in Nagasaki? Muslims?
      • Who killed more than 100 million Red Indians in North America? Muslims?
      • Who killed more than 50 million Indians in South America? Muslims?
      • Who took about 180 million African people as slaves and when 88% of them died, threw them into the Atlantic Ocean? Muslims?
      NO
They weren’t Muslims! First of all, you have to define terrorism properly…. If a non-Muslim does something bad… it is crime. But if a Muslim commits the same, he is a terrorist. So first remove the double standard… then come to the point."
*** Just for your information ***

In addition: In our modern times

Oklahoma bomber and Christian extremist co-conspirator blows up Oklahoma Federal Building and not called terrorism

On top of that a million plus Muslim people killed (as well as many soldiers being used as pawns) under 2 U.S. presidents in the Middle East over fake wars with no evidence of weapons of mass destruction that we were lied to about among other things, which President Bush called a Crusade (this statement has a historical connotation).

Also, the Rightwing extremist who held hostages a killed a bunch of children in Norway; not called terrorist nor was his faith mentioned

And Catholic extremists IRA blowing up many buildings and people in Europe for many years; they are not called terrorists nor is their faith mentioned.

A Caucasian extremist shoots up people in Black church, and in the aftermath extremists burn down 8 black churches in the South which is not called terrorism

Extremist shoots up Sandy Hook school and not called a terrorist

Right ring Christian extremists have been bombing multiple abortion clinics across the U.S. and does not get media coverage nor are they called terrorists

Extremists shoots up innocent people in a movie theaters in recent years, not called a terrorists

Zionist (so-called Jews) government extremists of Israel killing tens of thousands of innocent Muslim people and taking land illegally, yet not called terrorism

In Burma tens of thousands of Muslim men, women, and children are massacred by Buddist extremists and does not get media coverage, nor is it called terrorism

Extremist shoots and murders 3 Muslim students execution style in parking lot and this is not called terrorism.

      Etc.

So, there is a clear double standard. When a Muslim does a crime now or historically, it's called terrorism. But when non-Muslims do the same or worse crimes now and historically, it's not called terrorism.

And controlled news is the biggest anti-Islamic media outlet along with other media fronts. It's so clear that they are a form of extremists, or support the media narrative of those who fund and control them (media), and they support and/or are bigots against Muslims and Islam. And Allah (God) is the best of planners, so they will fail and those who support them will fail too. God Willing!

"They want to extinguish the Light of Allah (God) with their mouths, but Allah (God) will Perfect His Light, although the disbelievers dislike it." [The Qur'an 61:8]

      And

"...They plot and plan, and Allah (God) too Plans; but the best of planners is Allah (God)." [The Qur'an 8:30]

      As well as,

"And you see the people entering into the religion (or way) of Allah (God) in multitudes, Then exalt (or glorify) the praise of your Lord and ask Him for Forgiveness. Indeed, He is ever Accepting of repentance." [The Qur'an 110:2-3]

  14. 3Do I believe what you are saying about Taqiyya?

  15. From the Hadith:

Bukhari (52:269) - "The Prophet said, 'War is deceit.'"  The context of this is thought to be the murder of Usayr ibn Zarim and his thirty unarmed men by Muhammad's men after he "guaranteed" them safe passage (see Additional Notes below).

Bukhari (49:857) - "He who makes peace between the people by inventing good information or saying good things, is not a liar."  Lying is permitted when the end justifies the means.

Bukhari (84:64-65) - Speaking from a position of power at the time, Ali confirms that lying is permissible in order to deceive an "enemy."

  16. well i'm not jumping for joy, I'm not an islamaphobe. I was hoping to find some positive reassurance from a Muslim perspective. I'm disappointed to say this provides non.
"At what level of force is Takiya (Taqiyyah, Taqiya) justified?" if your going to debate this, what reason do I have to believe anything you say? Because if you are permitted to lie in unbearable situations, then I'm afraid that's just too vague, what constitutes as unbearable is entirely down to the individual. So there's no way of me being able to know when your telling the truth? To protect yourself.....from what exactly?
Also, your eagerness to mock islamaphobes, or call them bigots rather than put their minds at ease is a shitty attitude to take, and lacks any moral high ground?

  17. The fact that this rather obscure and extremely narrowly applied concept (the mention of which is only related to an incident in far far off history) should be distorted to justify Islamophobic myth-making says everything about those who bring it up. First of all, their stupid obsession with a term they don't understand and which most Muslims don't recognize shows their willingness to seize upon any term or phrase connected in anyway with Islam, distort it beyond any possible recognition, and then make it a center-piece in an anti-Islam polemic. Don't these folks have access to the internet?? Only access to misinformation? And still, after one cites chapter and verse to them, they manage to twist the deceptive debate some more, turn it all around to accuse the patient person trying to explain it to them that the term means that person is a liar!! Good lord! Get it: under some obscure "rule" applied to a situation hundreds of years ago, if a Muslim is being burned alive in a cage for being a Muslim she can say "Hold your fire. I am not a Muslim." Too bad the obscure ruling would not have worked for Al- Kasasbeh, the Jordanian hero killed by his terrorist captors. Hm. What can you the verbal torturers, who run after Muslims with rusty logical fallacies say now? What will you try to make Muslims say? How might you contort Kasasbeh's brutal murder for fighting ISIS to show some evil inherent in his religion? There is no answer for you that satisfies. You are only looking for hatred. You should feel lucky that current events are providing you with rich fodder.

  18. Bottom line, taqiyya may be used to deceive "infidels" about their beliefs if they fear "persecution", is that correct? For example, if they advocate Sharia law and they fear that would be ostrasized, they can lie about their belief. In other words, denying aspects of their "faith" to defend their "faith" is acceptable.

It's interesting how The Bible and The Qur'an clearly state that Moses and Jesus (Peace be upon them) were only Sent to the particular Nation of the Children of Israel, not to all people. But Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) is the Foretold and Last Prophet Sent to the blanket of humanity; to all Nations and Tribes (everyone) until the end of time (Day of Judgement)!

In Jesus's (Peace be upon him) own words:

"But he (Jesus) answered and said, "I was Sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."" (Matthew 15:24)

      And

      Allah (God) Says:

"And We have not Sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds." (The Qur'an 21:107)

May God Almighty Guide us all to the truth and may we all read The Qur'an, the Preserved (unchanged without different Versions and contradictions by the fingerprint of man like the Torah and Bible) and Last Book/Revelation/Scripture/ Testament of God Almighty with an open heart and mind (without bias and agenda) and see it is the truth in all matters. 2. ☝Concept of God:

It is God Almighty (Alone) Who is The Creator (Who is not a creation/not created, has no beginning & has no end; being Eternal, Flawless, is All-Powerful [Almighty], All-Knowing, Who is the Only One free of all needs, and Who is Self-Sufficient).

Yet man is among the creation [a person, place, or thing: (ex. stick, stone, flesh, bone, man, animals, sun, moon, planets, galaxies, including us, etc. are all weak and in need, and thus not self-sufficient)]. Therefore, we need to rely/call on/pray to God Almighty (Alone), just like all the Prophets (Peace be upon them) did themselves as the best examples for humanity.

Interesting similarities in the Abrahamic Faiths on the Concept of God Almighty, and submitting to God's Will (Alone), not our own:

“‘Of all the Commandments, which is the most important?’ ‘The most important one,’ answered Jesus, ‘is this: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’” (Mark 12:28-30).

"Say: He is God, the One and Only! Allah (God), the Eternal, Absolute; He begets not (does not have offspring) nor is He begotten (born). And there is none like (can be compared) unto Him." [The Qur'an 112:1-4]

"Going a little farther, he (Jesus) fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken (pass) from me. Yet not as I will, but as You Will." (Matthew 26:39)

"Say: "O People of the Book! Come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but Allah [God (Alone)]; that we associate no partners with Him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, lords and patrons other than Allah (God)." If then they turn back, say ye: "Bear witness that we (at least) are Muslims (meaning: those who submit to the Will of God).

And interestingly, in the previous scriptures clearly God Says "God is not a man", and He (God) also Says He is "not the son of man" yet Jesus (Peace be upon) him calls himself "the son of man" over seventy some odd times in the Bible.

"Allah [God] - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His Permission? He Knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His Knowledge except for what He Wills. His Kursi [Throne or Authority] extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great." (The Qur'an 2:255)

And like Muhammad (Peace be upon him) in Arabic, Moses (Peace be upon him) in his archaic language, and Jesus (Peace be upon him) in his own language of Aramaic called on & prayed to God (Alone) by Name using similar/same pronunciation as "Allah" with the same usage and meaning (Al=The & Illah=God).

Ex. We can look up or plug in "God" in any physical or online Aramaic Lexicon in the world, and see what word Jesus (Peace be upon him) called on/prayed to God Almighty (Alone).

  24. "I had never even heard of it until I was accused of it by someone in a discussion once." And yet, here we are reading quite an in-depth description of the doctrine, and how it is misunderstood, and how it doesn't relate to interactions with 'neighbors'. But it can apply to interactions with 'enemies'. Would that be like the "great Satan"? Would it be like in the case of the so-called refugees (75% of whom are fighting age males) from Syria invading Europe? Islam is a religion of peace is what we infidels are told. That is a lie on the face of it. Muslims have been a murdering scourge since before this country's infancy. The Muslim 'religion of peace' led to the Barbary wars in the early 1800s. Islam is not only a religion, it is political ideology that brooks no other beliefs and satisfies the intolerance by death to non-Muslims. To deny that and teach otherwise is.......taqiya.

    Must speak the truth:

"O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to God, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be he rich or poor, Allah (God) is a Better Protector to both (than you). So follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, Allah (God) is Ever Well Acquainted with what you do." 26. During the Spanish inquisition, Sunni Moriscos attended mass and returned home to wash their hands of the 'holy water'. In operational terms, taqiyya and kitman allowed the 'mujahadeen ' to assume whatever identity was necessary to fulfill their mission; they had doctrinal and theological and later jurisprudential sanction to pretend to be Jews or Christians to gain access to Christian and Jewish targets: 'the mujahadeen can take the shape of the enemy'.
According to Christian ethics lying is a sin; In Islamic jurisprudence and theology, the use of taqiyya against the unbelievers is regarded as a virtue and a religious duty.

What a pile of garbage which completely avoids the issue of Mohammad's encouragement of deception and lies...In other words, through the concept of taqiyya or kithman, Muslims are encouraged to lie if, in the opinion of the liar, telling the lie will be "good" for Islam...This all must be taken in the context of the Islamic doctrine of nakesh, or abrogation, stating when there is a contradiction between versus in the Quran, the latter verse supercedes the earlier verse (sura 2:106)...It's no secret that Mohammad's later writings, following the rejection in his attempts to spread his teachings, were much more violent and extreme than his earlier writings, some of which were much more peaceful in their nature...Mohammad's became a much more bitter and vengeful person in his later life reflected in his later writings...

  30. 85Bears Obviously you haven't read your New Testament.

Romans 3:7 "If the truth of God has been spread by my lie, then why am I judged a sinner."

The dead sea scrolls talk about a 'spouter of lies'....

Did James, Peter, and the authentic Apostles accept Paul as "one of them," or did they accuse him of lying? Did their followers accept him as "an authority on the gospel of the Nazarenes," or did they reject his teachings? The answers to these questions can be found in the letters attributed to Paul:

Romans 9:1: "I am speaking truth in Christ, I am not lying..."

2 Corinthians 11:31: "The God and Father of the Lord Jesus…knows that I do not lie."

Galations 1:19-20: "But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord's brother. (In what I am writing to you, before God, I do not lie!)"

1 Timothy 2:7: "For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth."

Why the emphatic protests if he had not been accused of lying?

Saul of Tarsus otherwise known as the false apostle Paul, Pol or Apollonius of Tyana. Apollonius means follower of Apollo, the sun god. Satan is called Apollyon "Apollo" the sun god found in Revelation 9:11. 'Sun'day, the very day you guys go to Church for worship of the Sun.

As you can clearly see Pol in his actions and works clearly explains Taqiya. As a concerned American, you should worry more about the final destiny of your eternal soul rather than blindly following what the Church tells you...

  34. Najeeb Ahmed said:

"• Who killed about 20 million of Aborigines in Australia? Muslims? "

Um, no one? Where the fuck did you get your numbers from mate? There were less than 1 million aboriginal inhabitants of Australia before European arrival. Possibly less than half a million. Most aboriginal deaths were from disease. Europeans killed around 20,000 aboriginals and they killed about 3,000 Europeans.

"• Who took about 180 million African people as slaves and when 88% of them died, threw them into the Atlantic Ocean? Muslims?"

Yes, it was the Muslims. However, you got the name of the ocean wrong. It's the Indian Ocean, not Atlantic. Of all the african slaves, only around 11 million went to the Americas, and less than 5% of those went to the US. African slaves in the Americas had a 2:1 male to female ratio, and were used for labour. They generally could marry and have a family.

On the other hand, of the 140+ million slaves that went east to muslim lands, over 80% died in transit (and yes, were unceremoniously dumped overboard or left by the road, depending upon the route taken). Of those that survived, the majority of the men were castrated and the majority of the women's children were murdered at birth. In the eastern slave trade there was a 1:2 male to female ratio, with the men typically used as fodder in wars and the women used as sex slaves.

Needless to say that with these two glaring holes in your narrative I'm not going to trust any of the other numbers you throw out there. Those native american ones look decidedly dodgy for a start.

All of this on top of the muslims destroying 4 of the 5 great Christian cities of antiquity and trying for over 200 years to destroy the last one (from which the Crusades eventually sprang) as well as the fact that muslims are responsible for the Dark Ages in Europe, is it any wonder that we don't trust you?

Given that Muhammad himself used taqiyyah to justify breaking a 10 year peace treaty with the tribe then inhabiting Mecca less than 2 years into the agreement is it any wonder that no one trusts the word of muslims?

Whenever you muslims bring up their teachings boasting about how they say things like "be truthful", and "be peaceful" and bring up how they ended slavery, etc, they fail to mention that all of this applies to other muslims only. According to your doctrine you're allowed to lie to, kill and enslave "infidels".

Islamic cultures are awful, backwards, repressive regimes. You can be killed for drawing a disparaging cartoon of Muhammad. Given that Muhammad was a treacherous, murderer, paedophile, polygamist, warlord and liar the real question is why aren't you all disparaging him? Is it any wonder we a little leery of the motives of people that follow his teachings and proclaim themselves "a religion of peace"?

I tell you what, you start respecting the cultures of the western countries you live in, stop the "poor muslim" rhetoric and publicly and vehemently call upon all muslims throughout the world to denounce, confront and arrest islamic terrorists and maybe we'll start to think differently about you.

"The basic idea, according to them, is that if any Muslim ever denies being a bloodthirsty lunatic engaged in perpetual war against the West, they must be lying. Muslims are simply presumed guilty, and if we profess innocence that is only further evidence of our guilt."

  36. "It should be fairly clear to any rational being that lying to spread a religion is nonsensical."

Well, there are a lot of religions out there that are based on lies... For example, in the Qu'ran, the story about David vs Goliath gets mixed up with the story about Gideon's Army. These two events didn't even happen in the same generation! The account given was recorded in the Torah long before it made its way into the Quran. I have to believe that the Jews know their history better than Mohammed did, who came along approximately 1600 years after the fact. A rational person would conclude that the account given in the Qu'ran is the one that is in error. This is but one of many discrepancies which cause me to question the alleged divine inspiration. If Allah is God, and by definition God is perfect, one would expect Allah to provide an accurate account of history, and it simply didn't happen.
The author also makes the assumption that rational people wouldn't follow a lie... Well, one of us isn't following your truth... and I've already exposed one untruth in the Quran.

"These constant stream of Islamophobes carping on about how Muslims are allowed to lie to non-Muslims whilst appealing to something called “taqiyyah” (also spelled, “takiya” and “taqiyya”) also end up convincing the average joe non muslim about this myth."

It's not a myth. These concepts come straight from your holy books. There are, by the way, no less than 12 verses which say that a Muslim is not the friend of the Kafir.

Now let’s turn to the Hadith.
“Mohammed: ‘Who will kill Ka’b bin Ashraf who has offended Allah and his prophet?’
A Muslim: ‘I will Mohammed. Would you have me do so?’
    ‘Yes.’
‘In order to kill him, I will need to deceive him. May I do that?’
    Mohammed: ‘Yes.’”

So, the Muslim deceived Ka’b bin Ashraf and he did kill him.

What is this? This is the Sunna of Mohammed; it is possible to lie to the Kafir as long as it advances Islam. This is the nature of Taqiyya.

Now there is another way in which a Muslim can lie. There’s a hadith, a fairly well-known hadith, in which there are three reasons for Muslims to lie:
    1) to the Kafir: Jihad is the struggle against the Kafir. A Muslim can lie to a kafir anytime he needs to advance the cause of Islam.
    2) to another Muslim: To make a situation better, a Muslim is permitted to lie to another Muslim.
    3) to one's Spouse: A husband and wife may lie to each other as long as it smooths the relationships in the household.

So deception is part of Islam. Allah is a deceiver (Surahs 3:54, 7:99, 8:30). Mohammed was a deceiver, and he is the example that all Muslim men aspire to emulate. Therefore, every Muslim can be a deceiver.

  37. "Rather than relying on shoddy hate sites/Christian missionaries to educate us about taqiyya we shall rely on SCHOLARLY authority"

Again, the author ASSUMES that any site that exposes the fallacies of his arguments is a shoddy hate site... so that he can direct the reader toward sites where they can get spoon fed with cherry picked information from so-called SCHOLARLY authority. Would a critical thinking, rational person allow themselves to be herded in such manner? If the author's arguments were sound and true, it wouldn't matter how much they read from Christian missionaries, the truth would stand on its own. My take is that the author is afraid of the truth that's on those websites.

I haven't gone very far and the author's arguments have not been at all convincing. So am going to jump ahead where he writes:

"Our Islamophobic friends jump up and down in joy whilst proclaiming taqiyyah (taqiyya, takiya) is allowed in the Quran. Let’s analyse (via scholarship) the two Verses they cite."

Here the author is being quite dramatic again. Jumping up and down? ??? There are at least five verses in the Quran dealing with this concept of taqiyya and it is also discussed in the Hadiths, and Islamic Law (Reliance of the Traveler):

Quran (16:106) - Establishes that there are circumstances that can "compel" a Muslim to tell a lie.

Quran (3:28) - This verse tells Muslims not to take those outside the faith as friends, unless it is to "guard themselves" against danger, meaning that there are times when a Muslim should appear friendly to non-Muslims, even though they should not feel that way..

Quran (9:3) - "...Allah and His Messenger are free from liability to the idolaters..." The dissolution of oaths with the pagans who remained at Mecca following its capture. They did nothing wrong, but were evicted anyway. (The next verse refers only to those who have a personal agreement with Muhammad as individuals - see Ibn Kathir (vol 4, p 49)

Quran (40:28) - A man is introduced as a believer, but one who had to "hide his faith" among those who are not believers.

Quran (2:225) - "Allah will not call you to account for thoughtlessness in your oaths, but for the intention in your hearts" The context of this remark is marriage, which explains why Sharia allows spouses to lie to each other for the greater good.

Quran (3:54) - "And they (the disbelievers) schemed, and Allah schemed (against them): and Allah is the best of schemers." The Arabic word used here for scheme (or plot) is makara, which literally means 'deceit'. If Allah is supremely deceitful toward unbelievers, then there is little basis for denying that Muslims are allowed to do the same. (See also 8:30 and 10:21)

Reliance of the Traveler (p. 746 - 8.2) - "Speaking is a means to achieve objectives. If a praiseworthy aim is attainable through both telling the truth and lying, it is unlawful to accomplish through lying because there is no need for it. When it is possible to achieve such an aim by lying but not by telling the truth, it is permissible to lie if attaining the goal is permissible (N:i.e. when the purpose of lying is to circumvent someone who is preventing one from doing something permissible), and obligatory to lie if the goal is obligatory... it is religiously precautionary in all cases to employ words that give a misleading impression...

"One should compare the bad consequences entailed by lying to those entailed by telling the truth, and if the consequences of telling the truth are more damaging, one is entitled to lie."

Taken collectively these verses are interpreted to mean that there are circumstances when a Muslim may be "compelled" to deceive others for a greater purpose.

  38. The author draws a very erroneous and arrogant conclusion:

"Taqiyyah (taqiya, takiya) is not something to be writing home about. To use this practice to brandish Muslims as untrustworthy (or to demonise them) is unscholarly and unjust.

If you do encounter an anti-Muslim bigot on the internet crying “taqiyya” (there are plenty about), please do send him/her to this group to be educated."

The author pretends to be scholarly, but their logic is full of holes and I'm glad I stumbled across this site to set the record straight.

Taqiyya is something every kafir needs to be aware of.

According to the Qur'an, Allah is the "best of deceivers" (3:54; 8:30). The phrase is often translated into English as "best of planners," "best of schemers," or "best of plotters," but the root word (makr) means "deception." Hence, the following Qur'an verses should be rendered as follows:

Qur'an 3:54—And they (the unbelievers) planned to deceive, and Allah planned to deceive (the unbelievers), and Allah is the best of deceivers.

Qur'an 7:99—Are they then safe from Allah's deception? No one feels safe from Allah's deception except those that shall perish.

Qur'an 8:30—And (remember) when the unbelievers plotted deception against you (O Muhammad), to imprison you, or kill you, or expel you. They plotted deception, but Allah also plotted deception; and Allah is the best of deceivers.

  39. Muslims claim that Islam is a religion of peace, yet all one has to do is look around to see what contributions Muslims are making toward world peace in the form of terrorist acts and subterfuge. It is prudent and scholarly to educate one's self on the concepts of Islam and the use of not only taqiyya, but all forms of deception throughout history:

Muhammad clearly used deception when he signed a 10-year treaty with the Meccans that allowed him access to their city while he secretly prepared his own forces for a takeover. The unsuspecting residents were conquered in easy fashion after he broke the treaty two years later. Some of the people in the city who had trusted him at his word were executed.

Another example of lying is when Muhammad used deception to trick his personal enemies into letting down their guard and exposing themselves to slaughter by pretending to seek peace. This happened in the case of Ka'b bin al-Ashraf (as previously noted) and again later against Usayr ibn Zarim, a surviving leader of the Banu Nadir tribe, which had been evicted from their home in Medina by the Muslims.

At the time, Usayr ibn Zarim was attempting to gather an armed force against the Muslims from among a tribe allied with the Quraish (against which Muhammad had already declared war). Muhammad's "emissaries" went to ibn Zarim and persuaded him to leave his safe haven on the pretext of meeting with the prophet of Islam in Medina to discuss peace. Once vulnerable, the leader and his thirty companions were massacred by the Muslims with ease, probably because they were unarmed, having been given a guarantee of safe passage (Ibn Ishaq 981).

Such was the reputation of Muslims for lying and then killing that even those who "accepted Islam" did not feel entirely safe. Consider the fate of the Jadhima. When Muslim "missionaries" approached their tribe, one of the members insisted that they would be slaughtered even though they had already "converted" to Islam to avoid just such a demise. However, the others believed they could trust the Muslim leader's promise that they would not be harmed if they simply offered no resistance. (After convincing the skeptic to lay down his arms, the unarmed men of the tribe were quickly tied up and beheaded - Ibn Ishaq 834 & 837).

And in modern times, The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) insists that it "has not now or ever been involved with the Muslim Brotherhood, or supported any covert, illegal, or terrorist activity or organization." In fact, it was created by the Muslim Brotherhood and has bankrolled Hamas. At least nine founders or board members of ISNA have been accused by prosecutors of supporting terrorism. The notorious Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) is so well known for shamelessly lying about its ties to terror and extremism that books have been written on the subject.

My final example is one everyone is well familiar with: 9-11.
The transmission from Flight 93 records the hijackers telling their doomed passengers that there is "a bomb on board" but that everyone will "be safe" as long as "their demands are met." Obviously none of these things were true, but these men, who were so intensely devoted to Islam that they were willing to "slay and be slain for the cause of Allah" (as the Quran puts it) saw nothing wrong with employing Taqiyya to facilitate their mission of mass murder.

Frankly speaking, the author has exaggerated and stretched truth to the point of fiction. It would be imprudent and non-scholarly for anyone to take the advice of this author.
